💡 All medical writers list therapy area expertise in their CV and portfolio, but how do we know that we have achieved true expertise?
The standard response probably revolves around treatment guidelines, FDA/EMA approvals ✅ and clinical data 📈 of pivotal Phase 3 studies.
However, personally, I found that additional knowledge is what marks you as a true expert in the field:
🤕 Understanding the distinguishing features of the patient population
🛣️ Being able to describe a typical patient journey from diagnosis to long-term management
🏰 A good grasp of the historical context of the treatment landscape
⁉️Awareness of key challenges present in routine clinical practice (versus randomised trials)
📰 Having a sense of what to watch for in emerging research, especially novel drug classes
🧐 Knowing where to go for more information (key experts and international congresses)
What do you consider the most important component of therapy area expertise? Let us know in comments!
