Storytelling tips, Part 3 – Results

📰 The results section of a primary clinical manuscript is traditionally less flexible in terms of structure and flow than the same section of a preclinical paper. Your story flow is predefined before you even begin writing: first describe the study design 🛣️ , then the patient population 🗣️ , then the primary endpoint results, and so it goes on.

💡 Even so, it’s a good idea to remember that you are telling a story. Look at how your chapters are connected to one another: are the transitions logical or abrupt?

💡 One key thing we can all do more of is consider different formats of data presentation. Clinical manuscripts often look like a stream of tables broken by an occasional Kaplan–Meier curve. It doesn’t have to be this way! Check out a few examples below 👇 and share your preferred formats in comments!
